Spice Up Your Movie Night
If you like popcorn and spicy foods, I suggest sprinkling some cayenne pepper on the next bowl you make. It adds a nice kick to an already awesome snack.
I also threw on some Kernel Season’s White Cheddar popcorn seasoning, which added some flavor to the spice.
“The William” Electric Stove
Somebody (William?) had a lot of fun designing this stove. All around, it seems like a pretty significant advance in stove-top tech:
[h/t Davison Creators]
It looks like a lot of fun to play with, but the designers don’t seem to address what I consider to be the #1 problem with electric stoves: thermal inertia. Gas stoves are great because you have the option of instantly reducing or increasing the cooking temperature. With electric stoves this is much less convenient — expecially if you want to go from high to low heat — and can easily lead to scalding. You always have the option of changing the heating element you’re using, but then you get caught playing musical pots. I suppose the 21 possible signatures could come in handy then.
I’m curious to see what Juicers think: do you prefer gas or electric stoves? How do you feel about the UI on “The William”?
Amazing WWII Experience
This is a great story from Col. Jack from 2 weeks after D-Day.
American War
My latest in a series of unrelated posts.
Artist Background
American War is Matt Scheuermann, an awesome person who combines guitar playing and singing to create exceptional music. I know, it sounds a little far-fetched, but I assure you the combination is nothing short of spectacular. His tunes are catchy, heartfelt, and poetic. His voice is colored with panache. He has a beard now, and like most people who have beards now, he used to not have one. The songs on his free album Rhetoric (link below) have become a staple of my daily listening routine. He also did a split with Andy Cook titled Through Leaves, Over Bridges, which is quite good – it used to be available free online, but none of the supplying websites seem to exist anymore. If you’re hard-pressed for a copy, email us (juicetheblog at gmail dot com) and we’ll see what we can do.

Mother of Exiles
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”Emma Lazarus, 1883

Some Lesser-Known Truths about Programming
Great article. Spot on. The shower example is Beej.
Programming is hard work. It’s an intense mental activity. Good programmers think about their work 24/7. They write their most important code in the shower and in their dreams. Because the most important work is done away from a keyboard, software projects cannot be accelerated by spending more time in the office or adding more people to a project.
WORDS
I came across this video the other day and have watched it a couple times since and always find something new. It was made in conjunction with an episode of Radiolab WNYC. Enjoy at will.
