Amnesiac
So today I was having a pretty solid fridge cleaning session, and I decided a little bit of music would be nice. I ended up going for a full Radiohead shuffle, which I thought would fit the mood pretty well, but I remebered thinking to myself, “This will be good, but I might have to skip a couple songs, like those ones on Amnesiac and Hail to the Thief.”
Turns out, I did have to skip a few, but not any Amnesiac songs (mostly HTTT, which I still don’t like very much). In fact, I ended up stopping every now and then, and looking up at that crazy red-orange album art, surprised that I was loving life at that moment.
I remember when I first got Amnesiac; I was about 16ish, thinking I was all bad ass music listener because I knew Radiohead. I ended up spinning it a couple times in my car, trying desperately to like it, and then ending up stuffing it in to my CD case and never listening to it again.
This first impression apparently lasted for years, because I don’t remember listening to it after that. After today, though, I think I’ll give it a few more spins.

Hear, hear!
Right on, brother. Amnesiac doesn’t get the love it deserves in my opinion, and I think some of the reason for that is that it came after Kid A…not _too_ long after, in fact.
I _loved_ Kid A, and I ended up saving up a bunch of money to get the special edition of Amnesiac which came in this really rad red hardbound book.

That probably does a much better job than I could in explaining the book itself.
I’ve always saw Amnesiac as sort of a “side 2″ to Kid A. Out of all of Radiohead’s albums, I’ve always seen Kid A and Amnesiac as the two closest together in style.
Now Hail to the Thief… that was to me as Amnesiac was to you. I still can’t really get into it either.

Also, the visual of you cleaning out your fridge to Amnesiac is something I find to be oddly hilarious.

@rob: Ah yes…I too bought the special edition Amnesiac as a young buck, but for a friend. I now wish that I had in fact kept it for myself. I also agree on the fact that it didn’t get enough love because Kid A was such a ground breaking record….and how do you top Kid A a couple months later? You don’t. But I also believe that originally Kid A and Amnesiac were suppose to be released together as a double disc. They were both recorded at the same time for sure….and they are both fuckin good.
@brian: I remember being quite happy with myself as a young buck knowing who Radiohead was as well…but like Rob I had always enjoyed Amnesiac and Kid A. Welcome to the club. I also agree with your view on the mediocrity of Hail to the Thief.
I have been looking on ebay for a while for one of those badass red books. I will find one….I will find one.
