New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Here’s some footage of the New Super Mario Bros. game that’s slated for release sometime during the 4th quarter in North America. Can anyone say christmas gift?
A lot of people are saying that Nintendo messed up with this one, arguing they should have developed the next generation of this series in 3D. I have to disagree with them. This game is a classic. It has a great history and an enormous fan base of old school gamers. I think giving it beautiful visuals and incorporating cooperative play is enough to modernize the game. Including another dimension to a classic platformer would only ruin the simplicity & fun of the game.

Did you ever try New Super Mario Bros for the DS?
Count me among those that were skeptical at first regarding this new iteration of Mario goodness. That was primarily due to how it was presented at E3 as a mainly multi player game. I’m fine with that, but it’s somewhat of a cocktease after playing New Super Mario Bros. for the DS (which is seriously fantastic and primarily single player focused).
I knew there was going to be a single player “mode” in this rendition on the Wii, but I was afraid that the single player levels were going to be watered down versions of the ones available to you for multi player…playing. This video alleviates some of those fears, along with rectifying the fact that in my mind this really is a true sequel to NSMB for the DS.
Finally, I remember there being a mention of a “CPU guided easy mode” stated around the same time as this game at E3 which was described as a system where the game plays itself “for you”. Unfortunately I can’t get to any gaming related sites as they’re all blocked right now (@ work), but this was first mentioned back in January with a patent Nintendo filed: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Nintendo-Wii-Miyamoto,6804.html

I haven’t played the DS game, although you’re the second person to say it’s really good.
That patent is interesting, I wonder if they follow through with some implementation of AI in their game. I wonder how it stacks up to the work going on for the Infinite Mario AI Competition.
