Juicy!

New Juicy Features

Fellow Juicers, I would like to take a moment to tell you about some of the features Juice has gotten over the past few months.

Every once in a while, I find myself wanting a little more from Juice in the functionality department, so I implement a new plugin. Sometimes other Juicers come to me with suggestions and I implement those. I’m sure some, if not most of you are aware of these features. To you I say congratulations, you deserve the Ron Popeil award for being a hardcore Juicer. To the rest, here’s an overview of what’s gone on under the hood recently.

Mobile Version
Big props to Rob on this one, he found a great plugin called WP Touch and suggested that we take advantage of it. It was easy to install (like most of the plugins these days) and very customizable. We had it up and running with a full blown Juice theme in no time. My favorite part about WP Touch is that you can toggle between the mobile and raw html versions. There seems to be an issue with the plugin if you’re trying to log into the site through the mobile version, this was just noticed on Friday. Hopefully it’s something we can fix.

Social Media Integration
Some love it, some loath it. There’s a lot of crap floating around on facebook, twitter, stumbleupon, etc., so why not contribute something a little bit…Juicier? Besides allowing easier methods for us and our friends to be notified about the newest happenings on Juice, this is also a good experiment on driving more organic traffic to Juice. Below is a short list of the current things Juice has going on in this area:

- Twitter Account
Follow @juicetheblog to receive tweets when there are new posts on Juice.

- Facebook Status
I’m still waiting for Facebook to wise up and include the functionality to post directly to fan pages, but in the meantime every Juice post is going through my facebook status. I think we should create an account for the entity known as “Juice, The Blog”, but honestly I’ve just been lazy. If someone wants to do that, let me know and we can hook it up to the site.

- Su.pr
Su.pr is a relatively new service from the popular StumbleUpon people. Their aim is to deliver another URL shortening service like bit.ly, is.gd, tinyurl.com, etc. as well as additional features to keep you hooked. The service has the option inject your URLS into places like Twitter, Facebook, and their own service StumbleUpon. It also has decent stats tracking system. You can see how many clicks each of your links received, if it got “re-tweeted”, and suggests times during the week that you would receive the most traffic. Props go to Brad for doing a lot of the heavy lifting with the Su.pr integration.

- ShareThis
Everyone has seen something like this before. A small link that allows the user to share the associated content through a multitude of different social media & networking communities. This one is nicer than a lot of the ones I’ve seen in the past. It has a clean design, is Ajax enabled, and even provides you with the option to text the content.

That’s basically it for now. There are some other things that are in the works, and if you have any ideas or suggestions, please speak up. Juice has come a very long way since September, but it has a long way to go.
