Mark Tellor: Italian Hockey Coach Residing in Provo, Utah

What follows is the story of my e-mail correspondence with a Mr. Mark Tellor, an Italian Hockey Coach residing in Provo, Utah over the course of 3 days in January 2009. It’s longish.

In recent Eric-related news, I bought a lightly used Mac Pro as a replacement for my struggling to keep up Macbook Pro. Bittersweet. Of course, to afford this, I have to sell my laptop, so I hit up craigslist.

I originally posted the laptop for way more than it is worth, just to see if anyone would bite. I quickly received this e-mail from a Mark Tellor:

“Hi, with your kind gesture let me know your firm price of this item am intrested in purchasing it………Thank you”

Oh great, a buyer! I gesture, kindly:

Women in Gaming

A quick history of the women in gaming. Be sure to watch at least 3:00 mins in. I was surprised to see the mentioning of a special someone. Credits to Genevieve for the find last night!

“It’s interesting when you actually look back at some of the classic atari games and you start to realize, alot of the really good ones were made by women. You had Laura Nikolich who designed Spider Man which also happened to be one of the few decent games built on a license.”

You go Mom!!!

Capstone Game Concept Art

Hey. I almost finished one of the pieces of concept art for my capstone game. It’s not great. I don’t draw very straight lines or have a great sense of vanishing point … but I was happy with it because I took it pretty seriously.

Maybe, just maybe, I will one day actually tell everyone about the capstone game. And also maybe post an Army Ants video once we get it fraps’d.

This is concept art for the Lancer tank, one of four player tank classes.

Animal Collective Playing @ Sound Academy in Toronto on May 16th

(Edit: WOO HOO CURRENCY RATES!)

JUICERS!!!!!!

I realize that a great many of you are located in NYC, but sadly it seems that most of the shows to be played there have already been played.

I propose: a road trip for some of yas to come up to Rochester on Friday the 15th (by no coincidence also my birthday), and on Saturday we make the 3 hour pilgrimage to Toronto to see the glorious Animal Collective @ the Sound Academy.  The venue itself looks freaking SICK for an AC show.

Click here for event details (Sound Academy’s Web Page)

I reallllllly really really really want to go to this, and I’d love it if my fellow JTB’ers would accompany me.  The show’s @ 8PM, and ticket’s should cost no more than 30$ $17.23 (!!!!) per person.

Comment with your thoughts.

I’ve been trying to figure out what to say about the inauguration, with no success at all. I will only say: it feels like waking up from a horrible dream. — I have travelled outside the US a lot. All my life, when people have criticized the US, I have tried to stick up for it where possible, and where it wasn’t possible, to explain. I couldn’t do either with Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo, or Iraq, or, since about 2002, really much of anything. For the first time in eight years, I feel as though I can be proud not just of the ideals to which my country aspires, but of how it is working towards them: not just of its aspirations, but of its reality. And that means so much to me.

It’s been difficult to capture in words the swirl of thoughts and emotions I’ve experienced over the last few days.  There’s a fine line between recognizing the magnitude of the moment and being intolerably cheesy.  (Though I’ve really enjoyed Josh Marshall’s readers’ takes — especially this one).

And while I’ve had moments of joy, that’s not really what I’ve been experiencing.  It’s honestly more like relief — and a solemn, perhaps somber, satisfaction after years and years of frustration, anger, and even deep sadness about the Bush administration and its actions.

Ezra Klein

Two things happened yesterday, and they were not, for the future of the country, of equal importance. First, George W. Bush stopped being president. And second, Barack Obama became president. In the arc of the moral universe, in the grand sweep of American history, Obama’s inauguration might have been of more consequence. But in the short-term condition of the country, George Bush’s exit was far more significant.

Matt Yglesias (in response to K-Lo)

Wow. Well, my inaugural good feelings were definitely spoiled a bit by the realization that George W. Bush was heading off to live out his life in a lavish home as a multi-millionaire retiree rather than going to stand trial in the Hague. But hopefully Americans can put our differences aside and work together for a better future or something.

Good riddance.

Battlestar Galactica, Back In Action

The second half of the fourth (and final) season of Battlestar Galactica has finally returned to television after a 6 month hiatus. I became a huge fan of this show during the winter of 2007. I was lucky enough to watch the first 3 seasons uninterrupted due to the marvels of technology, however many (if not most) BS fans have not been so lucky. The most recent 6 month break has been painful enough, I can’t imagine if I started watching from the shows conception.

To all you juicers who follow the show, what did you think of the latest episode? I’m curious to see where they’re headed with this one…

Will Smith jokes

Chris Rock:

[Obama is] just one of those guys, you know, like Will Smith. There’s no Will Smith jokes. There’s no Brad Pitt jokes. You know, what are you going to say? “Ooh, you used to have sex with Jennifer Anniston. Now you have sex with Angelina Jolie. You’re such a loser.” What do you say? “Ooh, your movies are big. You make $20 million.” There’s nothing to say about Brad Pitt…[With Obama it's] like “Ooh, you’re young and virile and you’ve got a beautiful wife and kids. You’re the first African-American president.” You know, what do you say?

lol.

White House, the Blog

Check out the newly redesigned whitehouse.gov, complete with an official blog:

Welcome to the new WhiteHouse.gov. I’m Macon Phillips, the Director of New Media for the White House and one of the people who will be contributing to the blog.

A short time ago, Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th president of the United States and his new administration officially came to life. One of the first changes is the White House’s new website, which will serve as a place for the President and his administration to connect with the rest of the nation and the world.

Millions of Americans have powered President Obama’s journey to the White House, many taking advantage of the internet to play a role in shaping our country’s future. WhiteHouse.gov is just the beginning of the new administration’s efforts to expand and deepen this online engagement.

Pretty slick.
