Invaluable Information
I love reading Juice and finding out something that I never new anything about. While there’s a lot of information floating around here, there have been two tidbits that I’ve discovered through Juice which have had very influential effects on the way I live my life. Many Juicers, perceptive as they are, are probably taking full advantage of these lifestyle enhancers. However, I’d like to take a brief opportunity to discuss them with you, in case anybody missed out.
Firstly, Mint.com. After reading “Mint.com Realeases iPhone Application, Rob Rejoices” I decided to find out what Mint.com is all about. Mint is a simple, beautiful online financial management tool. It allows you to access (almost) any online banking information you have, in one location. Basic set-up legitimately takes 5-15 minutes. But it’s SO much much more than an easy place to look at numbers. Mint allows you to make budgets, view your transaction history, watch your spending trends, set up account alerts, and compare your spending to others in your geographical area (or other geographical areas, thank you very much). Mint allows me to look at all of my bank accounts, credit cards, student loans, and investments. Daily. That’s the important thing. It’s easy, fun to look at, incredibly intuitive, and invaluably informative. Do you know how much you spent last month on food? Or at the convenient store on the corner? Mint gives you a comprehensive visual picture of your financial situation that you can carry around with you everywhere. It’s definitely made me a smarter, more competent spender.
The second item is brought to you from WNYC New York Public Radio …. Radiolab (radiolab). This is probably the best production ever created by any being, man or robot, purposefully or accidentally. I’m just going to quote Eric here:
Anyways, up this week is a podcast currently in the running for the coveted “my favorite thing ever”: Radiolab! Each episode of the show is an investigation of a scientific or philosophical question or topic, such as “Time”, “Sleep”, “Who Am I?”, etc. The show is hosted by two badass dudes, Jad Abumrad and Robert Krulwich who ask some really tough questions and offer earth-shattering insights that I’m sure that juicers will be able to appreciate to their fullest.
I just listened to “The (Multi) Universe(s)” and it’s absolutely incredible what cosmologists are looking into these days. Less than an hour can get you up to speed on how science views the existence of the (Multi) Universe(s), or free will, or love, or stress, or zoos, or space capsules. It’s remarkably easy to follow along, it’s mind-blowingly entertaining, and it’s expertly produced. Which got me to thinking… some of these topics would be really cool to talk about in a way that’s less structured than a pre-recorded radio broadcast which is, unfortunately, immutably structured. So if anybody wants to hang out and listen to an episode or two, followed or momentarily interrupted by discussions and/or drinks… I’m open.
Happy New Year Juice.

Yeah Brad!
I love Mint. I mean like REAL love. I’ve become dependent on it for my financial planning. I don’t know if you’ve ever taken a look at their mint.edu blog Brad, but it’s a fairly updated blog with some well produced features.

They have a bunch of good educational features regarding finance as well, but my personal favorite entry was the “Visual Guide to the Financial Crisis of 2008 and the 700 million dollar bailout” located @ http://blog.mint.com/blog/finance-core/a-visual-guide-to-the-financial-crisisthe-bailout/ .
