JUICE!

We’re here at Starry Nights working on the blog with the current Juice Team. Hopefully, we’ll get everyone integrated and posting this weekend, and phase everyone out of the google group (lifetime: ~4 days).

A couple todos currently on the list are author pics and bios, and we’re thinking of taking a unique approach for both of these items, which sort of requires a more lengthy explanation.

I like online communities. I like letting communities of high caliber people collaborate in an efficient way, in order to produce the best possible content. So in this spirit, we will attempt to leave a remarkable amount of content decisions regarding this blog to be decided by the community. So how do we take this approach with author pics and bios? Well, for the pics, every time we register a new contributor, we’ll have a call for submissions for that contributor’s pic. Then, we’ll all vote on the submissions, and the community will decide which pic to use.

For the bios, I think a wiki approach would be a perfect fit, and we’ll let the community define each contributor (gasp!).

Also, as for the organization of the site, we’ll be using a (now) traditional tag system, but we’ll also have a macro level organization, in the form of three categories: no pulp, some pulp, and lots of pulp. Ultimately, we’ll let the community decide what these categories mean, but my vision for these was to separate the posts by seriousness or substantiality. So things in the no pulp section might be quick, humorous items (i.e. fart jokes), while lots of pulp would be for long posts on serious subjects (i.e. a rumination on the current state of the Republican party). This way there’s a juice for all occasions.
